Parks Master Plan: Phase 1 Update

Confluence and PROS Consulting will present Phase 1 findings of the Richfield Park System Master Plan, a 25-year planning framework covering the city's 23 parks and 461 acres (about 10% of city land). The update shares results from a 363-person statistically valid survey (95% visited a park in the past year, 88% rated park quality good/excellent) and identifies three areas, including a southeast gap, located more than a 10-minute walk from a park. Commissioners will be asked to validate emerging themes to help shape the plan's vision statement.

Part of an ongoing matter · 1 related discussion

Potential benefit

The plan will use direct resident input from 363 survey responses and over 1,700 online engagement visits to prioritize which parks get reinvestment over the next 25 years.

Concern to consider

Because 60% of existing parkland is concentrated in just three destination parks, some neighborhoods — particularly the southeast walkability gap — may continue to see fewer improvements.

What happens next: Phase 2 (Visioning and Prioritization) is scheduled to run through fall 2026, followed by Phase 3 (Validation and Master Plan documentation) from winter 2026 through spring 2027; no vote is scheduled for this meeting.
